Culture, Media and Sport Committee

The Committee in the previous Parliament was appointed by the House of Commons to monitor the policy, administration and expenditure of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and its associated public bodies, including the BBC, on behalf of the House of Commons and the electorate. It also conducted inquiries into areas of current interest within its remit, such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the UK's cultural heritage and new developments in broadcasting.

The Committee chose its own subjects of inquiry and sought written and oral evidence from a wide range of relevant groups and individuals. At the end of an inquiry the Committee would usually produce a report setting out its findings and making recommendations to the Government. The Government had to respond to each of the report€™s recommendations within two months of publication.
