CONSTITUTIONAL AFFAIRS COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE THE WORK OF THE LEGAL SERVICES OMBUDSMAN

A special one-off evidence session with the head of the organisation responsible for supervising the work of lawyers is to be held Tuesday 4 May at 3.30pm.

Members of the Constitutional Affairs Committee will take evidence from Zahida Manzoor CBE, the Legal Services Ombudsman in order to find out more about the role of the Legal Services Ombudsman and the new role of Legal Services Complaints Commissioner. Key issues under discussion will include:

- The role of the Legal Services Ombudsman (LSO) and the newly created post of Legal Services Complaints Commissioner (LSCC)

- Whether these two roles are compatible

- Why qualified legal professionals are prevented by law from holding the post of LSO and LSCC

- What will be the likely impact of Sir David Clementi's Review of the Regulatory Framework for Legal Services in England and Wales

- What is the scope and nature of the Ombudsman's relationships with the professional bodies

- What impact the Ombudsman's office is having on stimulating change within the professional bodies and how those changes are monitored.
