Constitutional Affairs Committee to examine the work of the Information Commissioner

Members of the Constitutional Affairs Committee will take evidence from Richard Thomas, the Information Commissioner who is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 on Tuesday 11 May at 9.30am.

The purpose of this evidence session, which will be the first session of a more comprehensive future inquiry into the implementation of the Freedom of Information Act, is to find out more about the role of the Information Commissioner. Key issues under discussion will include:

- The role and responsibilities of the Information Commissioner and the enforcement of the Data Protection Act 1998 and Freedom of Information Act 2000

- Progress on implementation of the Freedom of Information Act and preparedness of relevant organisations

- Progress on the development of codes of practice for data controllers, in particular relating to third party data disclosures

- Data Protection Tribunal rulings
