NATIONAL AUDIT OFFICE: MANAGING RISKS IN THE OVERSEAS TERRITORIES
A statement from Edward Leigh MP, Chairman of the Committee of Public Accounts:
The UK still bears the liability for 14 overseas territories and while some, such as Bermuda and the Cayman Islands, have strong economies and robust democracies, others have many difficulties.
With such clear inequalities it is important for the UK government to be on top of the risks and dangers it could ultimately have to deal with. These risks are particularly prominent within government financial management, natural disaster management, and law and order issues.
And while there is certainly more for the UK Government to do, there is also scope for the territories to share their experiences and learn from examples of success.
