Community Cohesion and Migration
Parliamentary Committee visit to Barking and Dagenham
A cross-party parliamentary committee of MPs will be visiting Barking and Dagenham on
Tuesday 1 April to look at the effects of inward migration on the local area and community cohesion.
During the visit the Communities and Local Government Select Committee will meet people from minority ethnic and migrant communities, local residents and council representatives.
The visit is part of an inquiry launched by the Committee in December into Community Cohesion and Migration (see press notice for further details). This inquiry will consider the effects of migration on community cohesion. Barking and Dagenham is the third and final place the Committee is visiting in connection with this inquiry. The Committee has already been to Peterborough and to Burnley to look at issues facing the communities there. At the end of the inquiry the Committee will produce a report with recommendations to Government.
The Chair of the Committee, Dr Phyllis Starkey MP (Labour, Milton Keynes South West), will be available for interviews at the Barking Learning Centre between 13.30 and 14.00 pm on 1 April. To arrange an interview with the Chair please contact the Media Officer (see details below).
