Session 2007-08 22 January 2008
Community Cohesion and Migration
Committee visit to Peterborough
On 5 December 2007 the Communities and Local Government Committee launched an inquiry into Community Cohesion and Migration (see press notice for further details). As part of this inquiry members of the Committee will be visiting Peterborough on
Tuesday 29 January 2008.
During their visit, the MPs will meet key local figures and learn about the effects of migration on Peterborough and local solutions to assist with the integration of new migrant communities.
In the morning, the MPs will visit Peterborough’s award winning asylum and migration service-New Link. This service works to promote the integration of migrants into the local community, and works with settled communities. The visit to New Link will include meetings with representatives of migrant and resident groups.
In the afternoon, the Committee will meet key figures from the public and business community at Peterborough City Council Town Hall. A roundtable discussion will take place on the effects of migration on community cohesion and public services, and work being done to promote integration.
The Chair of the Committee, Dr Phyllis Starkey MP (Labour, Milton Keynes South West), will be available for interviews during the visit between 12:20 and 12:50 pm at the New Link Centre. To arrange an interview with the Chair please contact the Media Officer (see details below).
