The CLG Committee (scrutinising the work of the Department for Communities and Local Government) will be visiting Margate, Whitstable and Hastings as part of its inquiry into Coastal Towns . See Press Notice 16/2005-06 for further details.

During their visit on Wednesday 18 October 2006 to Margate, Whitstable and Hastings the Committee will meet with key local figures.  Round-table discussions will take place with representatives from the business community, public sector and local community.  The visit to Margate will include a meeting with young people from the local area.

The purpose of the visit is for the Committee to listen to people’s views on the needs of coastal towns in England.  This will include examining the case for special initiatives to tackle the needs of coastal towns, the work being done to address the social, housing and environmental problems they face, and the security of future funding for regenerating and supporting coastal towns.
