Children, Schools and Families Committee

30 January 2008

Oral Evidence Session

The Children, Schools and Families Committee will be taking formal oral evidence as follows:

Wednesday 6 February 2008 at 9.30am
The Wilson Room, Portcullis House

Evidence from: Dr Jo Aldridge, Young Carers' Research Group, Loughborough University; John Reacroft, Children's Services Manager (Families in Temporary Accommodation), Barnardo's; and Kathy Evans, Policy Director, The Children's Society.

The purpose of this meeting is to give Members the opportunity to explore issues related to children 'under the radar', meaning children and young people who either are not known to education or other children's services, or whose particular needs and circumstances are not known to those services. Some of the different categories such children may fall into€”such as runaways, children from highly mobile families, young carers and so on €”will be considered. However, the main aim of the session is see if some general conclusions can be drawn across these categories about the reasons for children not being in touch with services, the current ability of voluntary and statutory services to identify and respond to these needs, and whether the ability to respond will be enhanced by the Every Child Matters agenda and associated developments.

These sessions will be open to the public on a first come, first served basis. There is no system for the prior reservation of seats in Committee Rooms. It is advisable to allow about 20 minutes to pass through security checks. Committee rooms and timings are subject to change.
