Westminster Hall debate next week:

Stamp of Approval? Restructuring the Post Office Network

The Business, Enterprise & Regulatory Reform Committee is pleased to announce that next week's Westminster Hall debate on Thursday 29 November will be on the Report of its predecessor Committee (the Trade and Industry Committee) entitled Stamp of Approval? Restructuring the Post Office Network.

This Report, available on the Parliament website (see link in notes), examined among other issues: the proposed framework for the Government's restructuring programme, the new distance based criteria for access to post offices, the local area consultations on restructuring , the future viability of the network, the services that post offices could provide to ensure their viability, and the nature of the successor to the Post Office Card Account.

Peter Luff, Chairman of the Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform Committee (and previously Chairman of the Trade and Industry Committee) said:

"I welcome this opportunity to debate the Committee's report. The process of implementing closures is now underway. We raised concerns at the time about the framework the Government had laid down and many of those concerns still remain. This debate will provide Members with a vital opportunity to air their particular concerns and will contribute to the Committee's follow-up inquiry in the New Year into the process so far."

The debate will start at 2.30pm and will be available to watch at: http://www.parliamentlive.tv
