ENERGY MARKET INQUIRY:

COMMITTEE TO QUESTION THE ‘BIG 6’ ENERGY COMPANIES AND INDEPENDENT SUPPLIERS

The Business & Enterprise Committee today announces the next oral evidence session of its inquiry into the UK’s energy market. It will be questioning some of the smaller retailers in the electricity supply market, and the ‘Big 6’ energy companies. Issues the Committee will explore include:

• Energy companies’ expectations of future prices;

• The difficulties facing new entrants to the electricity supply market;

• Companies’ performance in delivering social tariffs; and

• The effectiveness of competition in the wholesale gas and electricity markets.
