Applicants invited for IPSA board membership

13 August 2012

The competition for board members has now closed.

Applicants are now being sought for membership of IPSA's board, for a fixed term from January 2013. The four ordinary board members will be drawn from a range of backgrounds specified by the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009. These include: one member who has formerly held high judicial office; one member who is eligible for appointment as a statutory auditor; and one former member of the House of Commons. The fourth member can come from any background.

Under the Parliamentary Standards Act, members of IPSA are appointed by Her Majesty on an address of the House of Commons. Individuals put forward for appointment by the House of Commons must have been selected by the Speaker on merit on the basis of fair and open competition, with the agreement of the Speaker's Committee for the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority. The Speaker has appointed an independent panel, chaired by Dame Denise Platt (member of the Committee on Standards in Public Life) to conduct the competition and to report to him with recommendations.
