Appointment

The House of Lords agreed a motion to commit the Bill to a Select Committee on 14 April 2016. The members of the Committee were appointed on 5 May 2016.

Promoter's Opening Statement

On Thursday 19 May the promoter, HS2 Limited, presented their Opening Statement. This was followed by presentations on the route (19 May), noise (23 May), compensation and control of environmental impacts (26 May).

Locus standi hearings

The promoter issued 414 locus standi challenges to petitioners. On 7 June the Select Committee began consideration of the right of petitioners to appear.

Petition hearings

On 5 July the Select Committee began consideration of petitions to the High Speed Rail (London - West Midlands) Bill. The Committee considered the last petition on 1 December.

Report

The Committee published its report on the High Speed Rail (London - West Midlands) Bill on Thursday 15 December 2016. Following the publication of its report the Committee disbanded.

Government Response

The Government published its response to the Select Committee's report on Tuesday 17 January 2017.
