In July 2012, the Foreign Secretary launched the Government's Review of the EU's competences. This Review will run through until the end of 2014, and will be broken into four semesters, the first of which ends in the summer of 2013. On 19 December 2012, the EU Committee wrote to the Minister for Europe, drawing attention to the Committee's previous work regarding competences, as set out in its reports and scrutiny correspondence. The Chairman also requested further information about how the Review was being conducted and what guidance was available to Departments.
On 21 January 2013, the Minister for Europe responded to the Chairman's letter and included several annexes setting out the general guidance given to Departments, as well as other information about how the Review was structured.
The Committee remains in contact with the Minister regarding the Review as it progresses. This page will be updated in due course to reflect any further correspondence.
