EU Economic and Financial Affairs Sub-Committee (Sub-Committee A) is one of six sub-committees of the House of Lords European Union Select Committee.
The primary purpose of the Select Committee and its sub-committees is to scrutinise EU law in draft before it is agreed in the EU, to expose difficulties and propose improvements. This is carried out by each sub-committee through Correspondence with Ministers, evidence sessions with Ministers or officials and inquiries.
Sub-Committee A scrutinises EU documents and policy on economics and finance, for example:
• The EU annual budget
• Tax matters
• Financial regulation
• Collection of statistics
