Markets in Financial Instruments Directive and Regulation (MiFID II)

The Sub-Committee scrutinised the Commission’s proposals for a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive and Regulation (known as MiFID II), one of the most important and far-reaching proposals in relation to financial markets in recent years, and published the report MiFID II: Getting it Right for the City and EU Financial Services Industry on 10 July 2012. The Government gave their response on the 29 October 2012.

 

The Sub-Committee held it's first evidence session on 22 May 2012, and heard evidence from Guy Sears, Investment Management Association (IMA), Christian Krohn, Association for Financial Markets in Europe (AFME) and Chris Bates, Clifford Chance.

The Sub-Committee held its second evidence session on MiFID II on Tuesday 29th May 2012, and heard evidence from Thierry Philipponnat, Secretary General, Finance Watch and Kay Swinburne MEP, Member, European Parliament ECON Committee.

The third evidence session took place on Tuesday 12 June 2012, and the Committee heard evidence from Professor Niamh Moloney, London School of Economics, and Professor Emilios Avgouleas, University of Edinburgh.
