The inquiry considered whether the completion of the single market had reached an impasse, due to the effects of the economic crisis and the perception that the job has already been done.
The Committee also considered what role the UK could play in reviving progress in completing the market, whether the European Institutions should take a stronger role, and, in particular, the likely effects on the market of tax coordination, the Digital Agenda, and the impact of the Services Directive.
A call for evidence was issued with submissions due by October 2010.
