EU Single Market

The Internal Market, Energy and Transport Sub-Committee of the House of Lords EU Select Committee launched an inquiry into the current state of the single market.

The inquiry considered whether the completion of the single market had reached an impasse, due to the effects of the economic crisis and the perception that the job has already been done.

The Committee also considered what role the UK could play in reviving progress in completing the market, whether the European Institutions should take a stronger role, and, in particular, the likely effects on the market of tax coordination, the Digital Agenda, and the impact of the Services Directive.

A call for evidence was issued with submissions due by October 2010.
