Joint Committee on the Draft Detention of Terrorist Suspects (Temporary Extension) Bills - role

The Joint Committee on the Draft Detention of Terrorist Suspects (Temporary Extension) Bills consists of twelve members appointed from both the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Committee is charged with considering the two draft Bills and reporting by 23 June 2011.

The Joint Committee will explore the Government's proposals that the maximum period available for the pre-charge detention of suspected terrorists should be 14 days, and should include a contingency plan for the Government to introduce primary emergency legislation to increase this to 28 days.
