08 February 2016

The Transport Committee hears evidence from the Secretary of State for Transport on the Government's plans for airport expansion in the South East.

Witnesses

Monday 8 February 2016, Grimond Room, Portcullis House

At 2.30pm

  • Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin MP, Secretary of State, Department for Transport
  • Lucy Chadwick, Director General of International, Security and Environment, Department for Transport
  • Caroline Low, Director of Airport Capacity, Department for Transport

Chair's comments

Louise Ellman MP, Chair of the Transport Committee, said:

"In recent weeks the Government has suggested that a decision on where to build a new runway in the south east is going to be delayed even longer. The Government has already broken a promise to make a decision by the end of 2015.

Businesses are making investment decisions now and need to know that the UK is capable of making the tough choices on infrastructure and international connectivity. The Transport Committee will be questioning the Secretary of State on his reasons for avoiding a decision and on his future timetable for airport expansion."
