This will be the first session of the Public Administration Select Committee’s (PASC’S) post-legislative scrutiny inquiry into the implementation and operation of the Charities Act 2006. The Committee will take evidence from Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts who carried out a review of the 2006 Act for the Cabinet Office. This review—Trusted and Independent: Giving charity back to charities: Review of the Charities Act 2006—was published in July 2012.
Particular issues to be explored may include:
- The key issues facing charities and the Charity Commission;
- the regulation of face-to-face fundraising or ‘chugging’’; and
- the issue of public benefit relating to independent schools and religious charities.
