MPs question current and former Independent Advisers on Ministerial Interests

This will be the Committee's only evidence session of a short Inquiry into the role of the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Interests. The Committee will take evidence first from Sir Philip Mawer, who held this role between January 2008 and October 2011, about his time in post, and then from his successor, Sir Alex Allan, on his priorities for the role.

Issues

Particular issues to be explored may include:

  • The remit of the Independent Adviser on Ministerial Interests;
  • whether the Independent Adviser should have the power to instigate investigations into alleged breaches of the Ministerial Code; and
  • the recruitment process for the role of Independent Adviser.
