Committee hold follow up session on fuel laundering and smuggling

The Northern Ireland Affairs Committee will hear from HMRC in a follow up session on fuel laundering and smuggling in Northern Ireland on Wednesday 5 September.

The Committee previously held an inquiry into fuel laundering and smuggling in Northern Ireland in 2011–12, publishing its report on 27 March 2012 including specific recommendations into the marker technology used by HMRC to counter fuel fraud. The Government Response was published on 25 June 2012.

This session follows up on the Committee’s previous report, in which the Committee agreed to invite HMRC to provide an update on progress on a joint fuel marker pilot with the authorities in the Republic of Ireland.
