European Scrutiny Committee

Brexit: Agriculture and Fisheries

Inquiry status: Concluded

Scope of the session

The European Scrutiny and the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committees meet jointly to take evidence from George Eustice, the Minister of State for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food on the implications of Brexit for Fisheries and Agriculture.

Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) accounts for 40% of EU expenditure. The Common Fisheries Policy has profound effects on national fishing industry.

Brexit has the capacity to radically change the UK approach to agriculture and fisheries. At the same time, the UK remains a member of the EU and is involved in current negotiations on these topics.
