The House of Commons has established an ad hoc Committee on the draft Local Audit Bill.
The Draft Local Audit Bill Cm 8393 was published by the Department for Communities and Local Government on 6 July 2012.
The ad hoc Committee will conduct Scrutiny of the Bill which makes provision to disband the Audit Commission and put in place a new audit regime, where local public bodies will be able to appoint their own auditors.
The Committee will consider whether the draft Bill will meet the Government’s objective of creating a more efficient and transparent local audit system with appropriate safeguards for the integrity of the audit system, and ensure accountability to local people. The Committee will report to the House by 20 December 2012.
