  • Obtaining a copy of a will Published 21 October 2014 | Standard notes SN03194 This note sets out information about obtaining a copy of a will. In general, a will is a private document unless and until a grant of probate is issued. Once a grant of probate has been issued, a will becomes a public document and anyone can apply to have a copy. In this note “testator” means the person who has written a will; “personal representatives” means the people who administer the estate of the deceased; and “beneficiary” means a person who receives property under the will.   • UK-USA Mutual Defence Agreement Published 20 October 2014 | Standard notes SN03147 The Mutual Defence Agreement allows the US and UK to exchange nuclear materials, technology and information in order to improve their atomic weapon design, development and fabrication capabilities. The most important part of the MDA is due to expire at the end of 2014 and therefore an amendment treaty, which will extend this deadline to 2024, must be ratified by both States and brought into force by the end of this year.   • Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 Published 16 October 2014 | Standard notes SN06111 The Fixed-term Parliaments Act 2011 creates a five year period between general elections. Early elections may only be held in specified circumstances. The Act also extends the terms of the Scottish Parliament and the National Assembly for Wales, so that the next elections are in 2016.   • Live Music Act 2012 Published 16 October 2014 | Standard notes SN06996 The Live Music Act 2012 means that a licence for a live music performance is no longer required if it takes place between 8am and 11pm; it takes place at a licensed premises or workplace; the audience is no more than 200 people.   • Flexibility for DC pension savers from April 2015 Published 16 October 2014 | Standard notes SN06891 From April 2015 people with savings in a defined contribution scheme aged 55 or over are to be able to choose when and how to access their pension saving, subject to their marginal rate of income tax.
