Unlike other legislatures, the House of Commons has not adopted a mechanical or electronic means of voting. Instead, the House generally votes by dividing, with Members walking through either the Ayes or Noes Lobby, according to their voting intention.

Members' names are recorded as they file past Clerks and are then counted by two Members acting as tellers. Those voting Aye (Yes) to any proposition walk through the division lobby to the right of the Speaker and those voting Noe through the lobby to the left. Once the lobbies are empty the Speaker announces the result of the division. The whole process takes about fifteen minutes.
